A panel is a graphic with specific dimensions, such as an illustration for a cushion, bag or the front of a garment. Unlike a continuous pattern, its edges do not need to match those of the neighbouring copy.

Set the dimensions and allowances

Prepare your design at its intended size, including seam allowances. If the panel should measure 40 × 40 cm after sewing and you need a 1 cm allowance on each side, prepare a 42 × 42 cm graphic.

Extend the background to the outer edges of the panel. Keep important elements, such as text, logos or faces, away from cutting and stitching lines so they do not disappear into a seam.

If the project needs extra bleed beyond the cutting line, allow for it separately. Its size depends on the cutting and finishing method — there is no single value for every panel.

Save the print file

Save the panel as a JPG at 100% quality and 150 DPI at the final print size, in RGB. Check that its dimensions fit within the print width of your chosen fabric.

Check the layout in the configurator

After uploading, check the panel’s size in centimetres and its orientation. You can also set the spacing between panels in the configurator. If you are ordering several copies, set their number and then review the entire layout. Make sure none of the graphics are cropped.

You do not need to manually combine all copies into one large file. If you need help preparing your panel, use Printella’s graphic design services.

How do you prepare a repeating pattern?

A repeating pattern lets you cover fabric with a continuous design. Its building block is the repeat tile, a section of artwork whose copies form the full pattern. A tile can be square or rectangular and contain one motif or several elements.
